Murdoch Hills, Rocket Chardonnay, Adelaide Hills, 2021
The vineyards and winery are located behind the township of Oakbank in the beautiful Adelaide Hills. Farming began here in 1939, with four Generations of the family caring for the land. The vineyard was established and started producing wines in 1998. Their approach is to make wines focused on being honest to the origins and express creativity.
This is Murdoch Hill's top Chardonnay, made in tiny quantities. The Rocket has more funky reductive character with struck match and lots of herbal, nutty notes. There's peachy fruit and bright citrus, and a saline note that is somewhat of a signature of Murdoch Hill's wines. Complex, intriguing, and just delicious
Rounded, mineral, layered
''A chardonnay of striking depth and elegance, this has tension. Purity of fruit and complexity, too. Really something. There are wet-stone minerals and flint, together with lemon, yellow-grapefruit and subtle, creamy spice notes. The palate has such refined and elegantly powerful style with a flush of bright acidity driving the long, fresh finish. Stunning chardonnay and terrific value on a world scale.''
