Founded by David Llewellyn, Lusca is Ireland’s pioneering micro-boutique winery. After early viticulture trials in the 1980s, he planted Lusca Vineyard in 1999 and released his first wine in 2005. Today he focuses on minimal-intervention reds and acclaimed sparkling wines, with production limited to just 150 cases a year. Every bottle is made exclusively from grapes grown at the estate, farmed sustainably and crafted without fining or filtration. Despite Ireland’s challenging climate, Lusca wines regularly receive glowing reviews, reflecting David’s skill, precision, and ongoing collaboration with winemakers in Germany.
The Rondo grape is a relatively new variety and thrives in Northern wine regions like England and Denmark. One of its parents is the St Laurent grape, renowned for its Pinot Noir style wines. Winemaker David Llewellyn believes this variety can make better wine in a cool climate like that of Ireland, than in a hotter climate.
This vintage was aged for 24 months in American oak, and was bottled without fining or filtration. It should continue to age well until at least 2030.
