Rocche Costamagna, Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata, 2022
Rocche Costamagna is one of La Morra's oldest estates, selling wine since 1841. Alessandro Locatelli has run the 14ha property since the mid-1980s, steadily raising quality in vineyard and cellar to make perfumed, elegant Barolo with a clear sense of La Morra.
This is the estate's flagship, from Rocche dell'Annunziata, one of La Morra's most celebrated crus, which makes up six of the family's 14 hectares. 100% Nebbiolo, fully destemmed and fermented in steel, then aged for 24 months in large oak casks before further time in bottle. 2022 was a hot, dry year with low yields, yet the top sites gave fragrant, finely balanced wines, and Decanter singled this out as one of the village's standouts.
