Twenty years ago when the market for the fortified wines of Maury started to collapse, Jacques Montagne started to buy up the best old parcels of Grenache & Carignan he could find. He now has 50 hectares of vines. The quality found in Clos del Rey stems from the fact that father and son save the best 8 hectares for their own wines, selling the rest to the local co-op. In the cellar they use older oak and minimal intervention. If you need persuading that old vines make great wines then look no further.

Tasting Notes
A great example of what wines made from predominantly blending grapes such as carignan can express when winemaking is done at this level. Powerful yet elegant, mid-bodied yet long-lasting, fruity yet structured. Expect some subtle spice and cedar on the finish.
