Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte Rouge 2019, Pessac-Léognan
The 2019 vintage at Château Smith Haut Lafitte is widely regarded as one of the estate's finest in recent years, produced in the first year the estate received full organic certification. Growing conditions were warm and dry, yielding wines of exceptional concentration and purity across Pessac-Léognan. Winemaker Fabien Teitgen, who has overseen a quiet revolution in quality at the estate over the past decade, crafted a wine that draws frequent comparisons to the legendary 2009. With a drinking window stretching to 2055, this is a serious wine for the cellar that is only now beginning to reveal its true character.
The property has been owned by Florence and her late husband Daniel Cathiard since 1990, under whom it has risen to become one of the most consistently acclaimed producers on the Left Bank for both red and white wines.
Today we see the younger generation take more control with their 3 daughters directly involved in the Chateau activities across skincare (Caudelie) wellness and wine production.
The estate farms sustainably across its 78-hectare vineyard and operates its own cooperage, producing around 70% of its own barrels.
