Alfred Tesseron and his team, led by Jean-Michel Comme, Pontet-Canet’s estate manager since 1989, have completely transformed both the vineyard and the identity of the château. Leaving behind conventional vinegrowing techniques in order to embrace organic and biodynamic methods, they have allowed the terroir to reclaim its origins; the vines seem liberated and the grapes have never been more beautiful. The wines of Pontet-Canet have progressed so much that they are now among the most prestigious in Bordeaux.

Tasting Notes

Open and complex, with leather, tobacco, dried violet, and truffle tertiary notes complementing dried currant, black cherry, baking spice, and tonka bean aromas. A touch lighter than other Pontet-Canet vintages but just as deep and multi-faceted; softened, plush tannins support a core of black fruit. Drink now–2035.

Robert Parker/Wine Advocate: Medium to full-bodied with a classic crème de cassis-scented perfume, sweet fruit, ripe tannin, and tremendous purity — a personality suggesting no manipulation, just hard work in vineyard and winery. Described as potentially "a better wine than its more famous neighbor, Mouton Rothschild," and one of the most concentrated and potentially long-lived wines of the vintage. Should age 2–3 decades.
