The vineyards at Leoville Barton originally formed part of the great Leoville estate. Following the death of Marquis de la Cases, the vast property was split into three; the Marquis’ son Jean-Pierre took the third that is now Leoville Las Cases, the Marquis’ daughter, Jeanne’s share became what we know as Leoville Poyferre following her marriage to the Baron de Poyferre and the final third was auctioned off and purchased by Hugh Barton, who has recently purchased Langoa in 1821.

Tasting Notes

Skips out of the glass with cheery notes of black cherry compote, redcurrant jelly, and cassis, followed by dried roses, cinnamon toast, and crushed stones. Light to medium-bodied palate with a rock-solid structure of chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and earthy.

Press Review

Decanter: Intense, luxurious, fresh, yet classically Bordeaux on the nose — loads of dark berry and currant fruit allied to a touch of oaky spiciness. Dense on the palate but also refined, elegant, and smooth.
