Over the last decade or so, Stephane Ogier has raised the bar in just about every way possible for his estate in Côte Rôtie, purchasing new vineyards, replanting existing sites, working hard to develop an AOC for Seyssuel and building a completely new cellar, all the while continuing to produce a bevy of brilliant wines. Today, the estate is unquestionably in the top handful of Domaines in the Rhône Valley.

Tasting Notes

Stéphane Ogier’s L’Âme Soeur is a strikingly elegant Northern Rhône-style red: 96% Syrah with a touch of 4% Viognier, grown on the steep mica-schist and gneiss slopes of Seyssuel opposite Côte-Rôtie.
The wine balances concentration with finesse. The texture is silky yet structured, driven by fine-grained tannins and vivid acidity. Dark fruits dominate initially, then give way to spice, charcuterie, herbs and mineral notes. The small Viognier component lifts the aromatics and softens the edges, adding floral brightness without overtly changing the wine’s Syrah identity. The finish is long, peppery and persistent, marked by black fruit, smoke and savoury complexity.
