After half a century of progress in wine quality and a restructuring of the vineyard, the Prieuré growth was promoted in 1855 to the rank of 4th Classified Growth of Gironde. Numerous diseases, such as powdery mildew, downy mildew and phylloxera adversely affected the property, which nevertheless coped well until the interwar period, before collapsing again during the period of the Great Depression and the 1929 stock market crash. At the time of the outstanding 1953 vintage, when Alexis Lichine vinified his first crop, the estate had shrunk to just a few hectares of vines.

Press Review

"The Château Prieuré-Lichine 2014 has a rather standoffish nose at first, but with a few swirls of the glass it opens up to reveal blackcurrant, raspberry and cassis scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, lighter in style than other Margaux, but elegant and focused, the finish very harmonious with assiduously integrated new oak. Very fine."
Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate 90-92/100

Press Review 2

"From the southern part of Margaux, the 2014 Château Prieure Lichine is little gem well worth seeking out. Offering lots of classic black cherry fruit, tobacco, herbs, and damp earth, it’s medium to full-bodied, impeccably balanced, and has moderate, chalky tannins on the finish. Like most 2014s, it’s already drinking nicely, yet is going to keep for 15 years or so."
