Chateau Le Thil 2020, Pessac-Leognan
Château Le Thil Comte Clary is one of Pessac-Léognan's most compelling under-the-radar estates, situated in Léognan neighbouring the celebrated Château Smith Haut Lafitte. The connection is more than geographical — the two properties share the same ownership and the same winemaking team, led by consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt, bringing Grand Cru expertise to a wine that represents exceptional value for the appellation. Vines were first replanted on the property in 1990, and since 2006 the estate has produced wines that regularly outperform their modest price point. The 2020 vintage, warm and aromatic across Pessac-Léognan, produced a concentrated, structured wine with real freshness and balance.
The property has been owned by Florence and her late husband Daniel Cathiard since 2012. Sitting on its own special patch of 'right bank' clay in Pessac-Leognan. A mini Pomerol is what some call this Merlot dominant wine.
