Since 1928, the Cavallotto family has owned the estate Tenuta Bricco Boschis. In 1946, they were the first cultivators in Castiglione Falletto to vinify all of their estate’s fruit. In 1948 they released the first bottling of their own BAROLO wine, with the label and registered trademark of Cavallotto.

Vignolo is the second cru at Cavallotto, not as high as Bricco Boschis with a southwest exposure. The site has more sand lending weight to the ethereal notes of star anise, rose petals and dried pot pourri.

18 Points Walter Speller JancisRobinson.com - Castiglione Falletto. Lustrous, concentrated ruby. Exotic spice notes over brooding fruit, and with the merest suggestion of tamarind. Then, with aeration, pure raspberry coulis. Fantastic fullness of fruit without being heavy and charged with energetic acidity. Very long and sleek yet concentrated, and with bags of fine, gravelly tannins. (WS)

Today the children of Olivio – Laura, Giuseppe and Alfio, the 4th generation working the family farm – continue to exclusively vinify the grapes produced in their estate vineyards into DOC and DOCG wines: Barolo, Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba, Langhe Nebbiolo  & Langhe Freisa.

Tasting Notes

From the heart of the Bricco Boschis cru, Cavallotto's 2019 “Vignolo” Riserva is a monumental and classically structured Barolo from a stellar vintage. The nose is deep, perfumed, and complex, with layers of dark cherry, dried rose, and orange peel, woven with powerful notes of tar, liquorice, and crushed mint.

"The Cavallotto 2019 Barolo Riserva Vignolo (a certified organic wine) shows an earthy and savory side with the extra texture and concentration that is characteristic of this warm vintage. With fruit selected from a 1.96-hectare site with 40-year-old vines, the wine reveals a core of black and purple fruits, with dried plum and blackcurrant. It closes with powdery tannins. This Riserva ages for a long 60 months in 20-hectoliter and 50-hectoliter Slavonian oak casks. Production is limited to 6,566 bottles."
