Founded by Giuseppe Maria Sesti, an astronomer turned vintner, the estate reflects a deep connection to nature and tradition. The Sesti family revitalized the ancient Castello di Argiano in the 1970s and began producing wine in the 1990s, emphasizing biodynamic principles. They integrate lunar and cosmic rhythms into their vineyard management, honouring ancient agricultural practices. The estate produces exceptional wines characterized by elegance and balance, with a particular focus on their Brunello, aged in large Slavonian oak casks to preserve the purity of Sangiovese. Sesti wines are highly sought after for their craftsmanship and the philosophy of harmony they embody.

Tasting Notes

The Sesti Brunello di Montalcino 2019 is a masterful expression of Sangiovese, showcasing the elegance and depth typical of this renowned estate. The wine greets the nose with a bouquet of ripe cherry, plum, and redcurrant, layered with notes of dried herbs, rose petals, and a subtle hint of leather. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet remarkably refined, with silky tannins and a vibrant acidity that provides structure and balance. Flavours of wild berries, tobacco, and a touch of savoury spice unfold, leading to a long, mineral-driven finish. This vintage demonstrates remarkable complexity and finesse, promising excellent aging potential while being approachable in its youth.

Press Review

Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate
93/100
"The Sesti 2019 Brunello di Montalcino has a soft side with ripe fruit nuances of black cherry and dried currant. This estate is located in one of the warmer parts of Montalcino, and in a balanced vintage like this, you appreciate the richness of the wine and its dark, accessible fruit. It is also very generous in terms of mouthfeel, with broad brush strokes and plush softness that extends most specifically to the velvety quality of tannins presented in this wine. Production is 14,000 bottles."
