Burlotto Barolo 2017
The Burlotto winery has a storied history dating back to the mid-19th century when Giovanni Battista Burlotto, a visionary winemaker, founded the estate in Verduno, Piedmont. During his era, Barolo was primarily sold in bulk, but Burlotto revolutionized the wine industry in the region by being among the first to bottle his own wines, allowing greater control over quality and branding.
Giovanni Battista was a pioneer in cultivating and promoting Verduno’s unique terroir, particularly the Pelaverga varietal, which the estate still champions today. Following his death in 1927, the winery went through a quieter phase until Fabio Alessandria, a descendant, revitalized its global standing. Under Fabio’s leadership, the winery re-established itself as a leading producer, particularly noted for the Barolo Monvigliero, made using traditional methods like whole-cluster fermentation. The winery today is celebrated for producing elegant wines that harmonize tradition with a clear expression of Verduno’s unique soils and microclimates.
