After devoting his life to Bodegas Luis Cañas and Amaren, the proprietor, Juan Louis Cañas set up a new project in Ribera. After a long search, he based himself in La Aguilera. The unique feature of this village is that the terroir is rich in old vines planted in either calcareous/clay soils or calcareous/sandy gravely soils at 800-950m above sea level. Focused on quality rather than quantity, they apply balanced, rational viticulture in the 85 hectares of vineyards with maximum respect for the environment. A state of the art winemaking cellar in La Aguilera was built to turn great grapes into even greater wines.

Tasting Notes

Intense nose, with notes of blackberry, vanilla, tobacco, black olive, chocolate and leather. The palate has a real richness and a meaty character. The flavours are of blackberry fruit, cake spice, tobacco and chocolate. The tannins are ripe with a sweet edge, this leads to a long lingering finish with typical Ribera acidity
