Twenty years ago when the market for the fortified wines of Maury started to collapse, Jacques Montagne started to buy up the best old parcels of Grenache & Carignan he could find. He now has 50 hectares of vines. The quality found in Clos del Rey stems from the fact that father and son save the best 8 hectares for their own wines, selling the rest to the local co-op. In the cellar they use older oak and minimal intervention. If you need persuading that old vines make great wines then look no further.

Tasting Notes
Black fruits, earthy, wild herbs. Dense and concentrated, yet very lively. Silky tannins. It displays a somewhat stony and intense finish that is infectiously juicy. A wine of elegance and great balance.
