95% Merlot & 5% Cab/franc

This property, situated on the northern border of the plateau of Pomerol close to many illustrious neighbors, was purchased by the Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1953 from Monsieur Pecresse, also owner of Château Trotanoy.

The vineyard is planted on heavy clay soils, allowing the Merlot grapes their best expression. The vineyard work is meticulous, with a hand-harvest completed in a few hours once the grapes are perfectly ripe. The wine is vinified in thermo-regulated concrete tanks, before being aged in oak barrels.

Supple, round, generous and fruit-driven, Château Lagrange is a delightful expression of the lighter style of Pomerol wines, approachable in its youth.

Tasting Notes

2016 is a tremendous rendition of Lagrange. Opaque ruby colour. The nose offers arterial black-red fruit perfume, with heart on sleeve pungency. This is a richly-flavoured Lagrange, dark, spicy with a flare of freshness and chewy density to the finish. Deeply impressive length.

Press Review

"The 2016 Lagrange (Pomerol) is an intriguing wine. Savory herb, dried rose petal, mint and earthy notes add quite a bit of character to a core of fleshy, dark red fruit. The 2016 offers good depth and plenty of persistence in a slightly rustic style that nevertheless holds considerable appeal. 95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Drinking window: 2021-2036. 92 points”
