Larry McKenna, commonly known as ‘McPinot’ started Escarpment in 1998 after cutting his teeth in both Europe and with Martinborough Vineyards. After many years spent looking for that special site, Larry and his wife, Sue, found they kept returning to Martinborough and specifically to Te Muna, 5 kilometres south east of Martinborough village. There, they established 24 hectares of vineyard on the terraces of alluvial gravel that overlook the Huangarua River. The land is farmed organically, with certification due in the next 12 months.

Tasting Notes
Artisan Noir explores a different approach to Martinborough Pinot Noir. Unrestricted by tradition, Escarpment make this wine with a focus on minimal intervention, low sulphur additions, and without filtration. The resulting wine is fruit-driven with savoury and spicy notes. The grapes are 100% grown in Martinborough, on the alluvial gravel terrace.
Bottled without filtration. Structure and texture sit perfectly with ripe fruit flavours and combine with intriguing complexity.
