Amirault Vignerons, Cremant de Loire Brut, Loire
Family run for 180 years, Xavier and Agnes Amirault are the latest generation to biodynamically farm 37 hectares across 53 parcels. Chenin blanc is known locally as Pineau de la Loire. This variety was abandoned for about ten years before it was replanted in deep gravel soils, a warm terroir which favours an early harvest and lovely fruit. It is the gravel that makes the Crémant so unique because usually in the Loire Valley, the chalk-clay soils of the Touraine or the schist soils of Anjou are planted with Chenin.
