About This Wine...

The wine

Whilst the Chardonnay may seem like an odd choice for a Rhône wine, it is the result of a careful exploration of the most westerly part of the valley where the Cévennes hills rise. Such is the diversity of the Rhône that even this more northerly grape is capable of producing wines of remarkable freshness here. Grown on poor gravelly soils and then fermented in stainless steel and with the malolactic fermentation blocked. A wine with a real finesse and elegance. Best served at 10°C.

“Grown in the hills around Montpellier this.. has fine zingy lemon and bright fruit aromas including melons and sweet pears and on the palate has good elegance and subtlety with a pleasing fresh finish. Try with baked fish or perhaps some ripe Comté” Leslie Williams, The Irish Examiner, 1st April 2017

The winery

Working with partners within the region and in selecting either grapes or grape must from carefully selected vineyard sites in the Rhône Valley or working with finished wines, we attempt to put together wines that display all the elements that make the two parts of the region so famous. Above all, we believe that Simone Joseph wines need to reflect elegance, freshness, balance, and individuality – attributes that in days gone by made the Rhône so highly prized, but that may have become blurred, in more recent times, by a trend for concentration and power.
We are currently exploring some new sources for our range but will continue to focus on the very popular Chardonnay in the
meantime.
