About This Wine...
This Rosso di Montalcino is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes and aged for 16 months in medium sized oak barrels. Hand harvested. This excellent Montalcino estate is run by the amazing and slightly eccentric Giuseppe Sesti. Like so many estates in Tuscany they also have extensive olive groves. Giuseppe is not just an inspirational winemaker but he has also dedicated himself to the history of astronomy, having written several books on the subject, encompassing the ancient calendar systems and the story of the Celestial Sphere. He farms organically, but not certified, and biodynamically which he says enables him to produce wines using the lowest amounts of sulphides, hence making the most exquisite of wines. His top wine, named “Phenomena” is a Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, and always commemorates a significant astronomical event which occurred during the year of the harvest.
