On the right bank of the Gironde estuary that runs through the Bordeaux region, you will find the world famous areas of wines production – Pomerol and Saint Émilion. The two regions differ quite a bit, as well as their different locations and climatic conditions, the soil type has a significant impact on the style of wine produced.
The vineyards in Pomerol are in general planted on sandy-clay soils which help to give the final wine power and opulence. The soils in Saint Emilion are mostly limestone which gives the wine an elegance and purity of fruit. The right bank region as a whole contains numerous good quality small appellations including Fronsac and Lalande-de-Pomerol. Merlot and Cabernet Franc dominate here, each contributing it’s own unique characteristics, from soft rounded fruit todense concentration of flavour.
