Quinta da Fonte Souto Florao White 2020 Alentejo
The 207-hectare Quinta da Fonte Souto was acquired by the Symington family in 2017 and is their first vineyard outside the Douro.
Seductive aromas of pineapple and apricot preserve with subtle background notes of wildflowers and sea breeze. The palate is wonderfully fresh, punctuated by stony minerality and citric verve, a characteristic of the Arinto — the predominant variety in this blend. Pineapple is again present in the mouth, as well as Gala apple flavours.
"From the Symingtons' new property in northern Alentejo. 80% Arinto, 20% Verdelho. Unoaked.
The initial aroma is mostly Arinto – citrus, especially grapefruit and just very slightly herbal, green fruits – but on the palate it is more scented and textured from the Verdelho and, as it opens, it is a touch more peachy and riper-tasting, with a slight floral character, spice too. A very good blend where the two varieties are really well matched. Very fresh. This is really good: vibrant and surprisingly complex because it is not just about the character of the grape varieties but also the site, with something almost steely at the very end."
