About This Wine...
“this biodynamic Prosecco is elegantly restrained with a balance of herbaceous white blossom and delicate pear flavours. A real treat” Corinna Hardgrave, the Irish Independent, 24th February 2018
“If you were in any doubt about the excellence of non-Champagne sparkling wines… the linear, but full bodied top flight Proscecco from Perlage will surely convert you to the bright side” Tomas Clancy, ‘top five sparkling wines’ The Sunday Business Post, 26th November 2017
The Estate
Prosecco, like Pinot Grigio, suffers what we call the “Veneto Effect”. Too often these grapes derive from fertile soils and flat terrain – giving clean, simple wine of little distinction. However, there is a series of hills in the eastern Veneto that challenges the vine to perform to exacting standards. This small zone lies between the towns of Valdobbiadene and Conegliano – where the DOC Prosecco di Valdobbiadene is located – sheltered by the Dolomite Mts to the north and the Adriatic Coast to the south-east. These two influences moderate the already mild and temperate climate, making it ideal for viticulture. The hills were shaped by the Piave Glacier which formed natural ampitheatres and ideal ripening conditions.
It was in Valdobbiadene in 1985 when the seven Nardi brothers decided to convert the family’s vineyards to organic agriculture. The first producer to utilize organic viticulture in Prosecco also became the first to utilize biodynamic viticulture in 2005. Perlage now also produce the world’s only Prosecco made without the addition of sulfites.
