About This Wine...
The Wine: A deep bright inky crimson red, the nose shows fragrant, ripe berry flavours lifted by dusty exotic spicy notes. There is generous complex fruit flavour on the front palate, leading seamlessly through to a very dry firm tannin finish.
A wine of elegance and finesse with great concentration of flavour, perfectly balance now but with excellent long term cellaring potential.
The Vineyards: Handpicked fruit from our mature, totally dry grown vineyard yielding just 1 tonne per acre (ie 17 Hl per Hectare) No artificial fertilisers, pesticides or herbicides have been used in growing these grapes. The vineyard has had regular biodynamic sprays applied since 2005.
The Winemaking: This Shiraz has a component of whole bunch fermentation which gives a wonderful lifted perfume to the wine and helps with the tannin structure. The Shiraz is estate bottled after 18 months in French oak barrels.
The Winemaker: Andrew Mitchell & Simon Pringle

The winery
Widely recognised as one of the world’s leading Riesling producers and highly respected for their Semillon and intensely flavoured, well structured, long living reds. Run by Andrew and Jane Mitchell and their son Angus, the winery has gone from
strength to strength since its inauguration in 1975. Andrew’s philosophy is to make wines of intensity of varietal fruit flavours, defining regional character with balance and elegance. The wines combine the rare feat of drinkability in their youth with great ageing capacity. Meanwhile the Clare Valley Winemakers Association recognised Jane as a Clare Valley legend and inducted her into their Hall of Fame. Son Angus manages Mitchell’s 80 ha incorporating the sustainable farming beliefs laid out before him by his grandfather Peter and father Andrew.
