Louis Michel Chablis Grand Cru, Vaudésir 2013




The Michel family has been making Chablis since 1850. The family vineyard, whose vines are 45 years old on average, is located in the heart of the original Chablis terroir, on the most prestigious parcels within a radius of two kilometers from the winery. The 25 hectares of the Domaine’s vineyards cover all four appellations: Chablis Grand Cru, Premier Cru, Chablis, and Petit Chablis. The Domaine makes three Grand Crus (Grenouilles, Les Clos, Vaudésir), as well as seven Premier Crus.

Each vineyard is managed individually, with its own regime of pruning, leaf pulling, green harvest, cover crops, and tilling designed to maximize vine health and help express the site. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeast only.

In the 1980s the family decided to stop using barrels for wine maturation switching to stainless steel tanks which are totally neutral and allow the expression of complexity and pureness of the aromas, respecting the authentic taste of true Chablis, without any artificial wood.

About This Wine...

The parcel tended by Louis Michel & Fils is located in the lower part of the valley. Wines produced from these vineyards are tight, with wonderful salinity and full body, and are even creamy on the palate. Aged in stainless steel tanks, for at least 18 months. The nose reveals notes of rhubarb and acacia flower. Fine and elegant in the mouth, with buttery, brioche aromas, and a dominant hint of coconut.
