About This Wine...
Butteaux is the southernmost of three Premier Cru climats that make up the wider Chablis Montmains Premier Cru umbrella title. Butteaux’s steep slope and its limestone-rich soils mark it out as a high-performing terroir. Wines from Butteaux tend to be powerful and steely, with subtle characters of stonefruit and apple.
Butteaux is regarded as the more “structured”, powerful Premier Cru in Chablis, due to the higher proportion of white clay in the soil in this 40 hectare (100 acre) site. This cuvée is from a 0.75-hectare site of 65-year-old vines on white clay soil.
