The Judgement of Paris took place in 1976. Set up by Stephen Spurrier, it was the ultimate blind tasting competition. France versus California.
At the event two californian wines came out on top. The chardonnay competition was won by the iconic Chateau Montelena Chardonnay.
The Bordeaux blends was won by Stags Leap Wine Cellars.
A surprise for all, not least the prestigious French wine producers who were judging the competition.
Re-create your own judgement of Paris. At home it’s difficult to ensure it’s completely blind, but it’s fun trying.
