Guido Porro Barolo V. Lazzairasco 2016

60.00

The limestone-heavy soils of Serralunga d’Alba are known for providing the most long-lived and full-bodied Barolos. Porro’s vineyards are located here in the Lazzarito, a gorgeous amphitheater that faces south-southwest and offers the grapes full sun exposure and protection from the wind. The sub-zones of Lazzairasco and Santa Caterina are both monopoles and share the same soils. However, the monopoles have different expositions and elevations that provide distinct traits to each wine. Lazzairasco is a very hot site and home to Porro’s oldest Nebbiolo, resulting in a more powerful, masculine wine. The cooler, breezier Santa Caterina brings out the delicacy and elegance of Nebbiolo.

About This Wine...

“Guido Porro is one of my favorite under the radar producers…They also happen to be among the most fairly priced Baroli readers will come across in today’s market. Porro’s vineyards are in Serralunga, where Baroli tend to be quite powerful, but here the wines are delicate, perfumed and refined, all in a classic, traditional style built on transparency and weightlessness. Guido Porro remains one of the most underrated growers in Serralunga.”

Antonio Galloni

“From 50 year old vines, this beauty offers up a large scaled, tight nose with notes of gravel, cherry jam that has dried up, ripe flowers, earth and rosehips. A salty touch. Very fine. The taste is tight, cool and fine with notes of dried cherries, dry licorice, asphalt and fir wood. Very long and balanced. Really good. 8+ years.”
