Domaines des Comtes Lafon Meursault Genevriéres Premier Cru 2015

There is one domain in Meursault that stands out for both its quality and resulting worldwide reputation: Domaine des Comtes Lafon. Established at the beginning of the 19th century by a wealthy amateur called Jules Lafon, the house is today directed by his great grandson, Dominique Lafon. It uses the same family traditions and covers 13 appellations. The domain has for a long time aimed to preserve the environment in its winemaking process. It now uses biodynamics and was officially classified “organic” in 1998.

He has two sections here in Genevriéres, 1/3 young and 2/3 old. Situated in the Genevrières-Dessus, practically next to the Perrières parcel facing due east. The yields are also rather irregular for older vines, (25 to 40 hl/ha), better for the younger vines, (45 to 55 hl/ha). The soil is poor and light, the wines produced have great finesse, with a roundness characteristic of Meursault.

About This Wine...

“The Genevrières is a supremely pretty wine this year, introduced by notes of crisp orchard fruit, crème pâtissière and white flowers, which lead into a texturally refined, elegant wine with deceptive depth, length and saline minerality through the tangy finish. Drinking 2020 – 2040.”

93/100 Decanter 2017

“This is classic Genevrières on the nose (perhaps Meursault’s most elegant wine), wafting from the glass in a fine mix of apple, pear, passion fruit, salty minerality, hazelnut, iodine and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and very refined, with a fine core, bright, zest acids, excellent focus and grip and a very, very long, complex and classy finish. Drink 2016 – 2035.”

94/100 John Gilman 2016
