Domaine Michel Magnien Morey Saint Denis ‘Monts Luisants’ 2015

Pinot Noir

(Biodynamic since 2005). Domaine Michel Magnien has a long and somewhat complicated history typical of the family domaines of Burgundy. Michel Magnien is a fourth-generation producer who worked for decades with his father, sometimes as a tenant farmer. Today his son Frederic, who also has his own domaine, is part of the business, along with Dominique, Michel’s wife. Domaine Michel Magnien owns about 25 acres of Grand Cru, Premier Cru and Villages vineyards and it is based in Morey Saint Denis. There are important parcels in Gevrey-Chambertin, Les Cazetiers, Morey Saint Denis, Clos de la Roche and Clos Saint Denis. Robert M. Parker Jr. has noted that the wines of Michel Magnien possess “a good deal of charm and character.”

About This Wine...

“Comes from 0.38-hectares of 50- to 60-year-old vine and is a blend of premier cru and village vines. It has a lively bouquet with mulberry, raspberry and pine needle scents that are nicely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a “juicy” supple opening. This is nicely balanced with a fine line of acidity, a gentle build to quite a structure finish that does not outstay its welcome. This should be worth seeking out after bottling. Drink 2018 – 2025.”

91/100 Robert Parker
