About This Wine...
This is Jean Marc Dournel’s very special top cuvee – elegant, well balanced, with restrained fruit and very carefully integrated oak from new one year old barrels. This is a very serious wine, is drinking well now and has the potential to age for many more years.
The Domaine des Costes takes its name from the old French which means hillsides. This hillside is one of the few areas of Pécharmant where there is a stony ground and sandy clay, soil very favorable to the maturity of the Cabernet which represents more than 50% of the crop on this property. This vineyard belonged to the family of Foucault until the beginning of the century. In 1992, the Dournel family took over the leasehold property. Particular attention is paid to the vineyard to produce Pécharmant wines that are round, concentrated and long-lasting.
The grapes are mainly Merlot and both Cabernets, selected and picked by hand to develop this cuvée whose ageing in barrels lasted two years. The particularity of this wine is also the fact of being produced only on exceptional years such as this vintage. The Domaine des Costes is one of the only properties on Pécharmant to offer a wine that is also biodynamic.
