Domaine des Baumard Quarts de Chaume 2008 375ml

39.50

100% Chenin Blanc

There are around 45 hectares of vine in production of Quarts de Chaume, of which Domaine des Baumard owns 6. Made entirely from late-harvest Chenin Blanc, the wine relies on the development of botrytis–that miraculous bacteria known as “noble rot,” which dries grapes to a sugary sweetness. The result is one of the most irresistible and dazzlingly honeyed wines imaginable.

Although only a handful of winemakers operate within this tiny region, the Domaine des Baumards Quarts des Chaume is one of the appellation’s most iconic flagship estates. On first sip, it offers immense purity of flavor, rippling with quince, candied apple and a lively jolt of fresh citrus.

About This Wine...

“With so much intensity, botrytis and concentration, this is going to be impressive. It is still very young, at a closed stage, but the ripe currant as well as the honey dominate. Great wine.”

95/100 Wine Enthusiast 2011

“The sheer persistence of flavor here is remarkable. This is likely to be a very long-lived (20+ year) and perhaps eventually an extraordinary wine.”

92/100 Robert Parker
