About This Wine...
The Estate
Domaine de Beaurenard at Chateauneuf du Pape, has been a family owned estate for seven generations. A notorial act dated 16 December 1695 mentions ‘Bois Renard’ which over time has become ‘Beaurenard’. Today, Paul, Regine and their two sons, Daniel and Frederic , are endeavouring to perpetuate the tradition. There are 30 hectares of vineyards around Chateauneuf du Pape and 25 hectares in the appellations of Cotes du Rhone and Cotes du Rhone Villages Rasteau.
Soils & Grape Varieties
These nice siliceous-clayey soils are stony and steep hillsides. The slopes and terraces are superbly displayed and benefit from ideal hours of sunshine. It allows a very ripeness of grapes. 80 % Grenache et 20% Syrah were chosen. The vigour of the vine is controlled to privilege the terroir expression. The yields are low, only 32 hl/Ha.
Wine Production
The grapes are destemmed and ferment during 18 to 26 days, with wild yeast, in order to fully extract the concentration achieved in the vineyard and to maximise refinement of the extracted phenolic constituents. The Rasteau soils, can produce wines with strong tannins. Then the wine are clarified and aged during 12 month in vats and in oak foudres before the bottling accomplished with care at the estate.
