Clos Del Rey 2017 Maury Languedoc Roussillon

60/40 Carignan & Grenache..

Twenty years ago when the market for the fortified wines of Maury started to collapse, Jacques Montagne started to buy up the best old parcels of Grenache & Carignan he could find. He now has 50ha of vines. The quality found in Clos del Rey stems from the fact that father and son save the best 8ha of for their own wines, selling the rest to the local coop. In the cellar they use older oak and minimal intervention. If you need persuading that old vines make great wines then look no further.

“These superb efforts are made by Jacques and son Julien Montagne from their Roussillon-based estate. They make heavy use of Carignan, with superb results.” Robert Parker

About This Wine...

The top wine from the estate and made from extremely small yields.

“A 60-40 blend of Carignan and Grenache, the Cotes du Roussillon Villages Clos del Rey spent 22 months in oak, half of which was new. Huge aromas of cedar and mint are joined by massively extracted dark fruit notes, resulting in a slightly medicinal nose. It’s full-bodied on the palate, with rich, velvety tannins and plenty of intensity, plus a long, long finish.”

92/100 Robert Parker
