Clos Del Rey Le Sabina Rouge 2018, Maury, Roussillon

21.95

65% Grenache, 25% Syrah & 10% Carignan.

Twenty years ago when the market for the fortified wines of Maury started to collapse, Jacques Montagne started to buy up the best old parcels of Grenache & Carignan he could find. He now has 50ha of vines. The quality found in Clos del Rey stems from the fact that father and son save the best 8ha of for their own wines, selling the rest to the local coop. In the cellar they use older oak and minimal intervention. If you need persuading that old vines make great wines then look no further.

About This Wine...

Black fruits, earthy, wild herbs. Dense and concentrated, yet very lively. Silky tannins. It displays a somewhat stony and intense finish that is infectiously juicy. A wine of elegance and great balance. 9 months in tank before bottling.

“Saw only concrete prior to bottling, it features attractive aromas of crushed stone and ripe black cherries on the nose and is full-bodied and concentrated in the mouth, with those bold flavors underscored by fine-grained tannins, a strong schistous structure and tremendous length. This is a real beauty.”

93/100 Robert Parker
