Clos Del Rey L’Aragone 2018 Maury Languedoc Roussillon

26.95

Old Vine Carignan.

Twenty years ago when the market for the fortified wines of Maury started to collapse, Jacques Montagne started to buy up the best old parcels of Grenache & Carignan he could find. He now has 50ha of vines. The quality found in Clos del Rey stems from the fact that father and son save the best 8ha of for their own wines, selling the rest to the local coop. In the cellar they use older oak and minimal intervention. If you need persuading that old vines make great wines then look no further.

“These superb efforts are made by Jacques and son Julien Montagne from their Roussillon-based estate. They make heavy use of Carignan, with superb results.” Robert Parker

About This Wine...

Only 150 cases made.

Very pretty nose of spices, garrigue (scrubland) and leather. The wine is pure and soft, medium bodied with a fresh finish.

“Outstanding. Made from 100% Carignan and aged 12 months in concrete, it shows the prettier side of this variety, with classic notions of spice, cedar, new leather and plum sauce on the nose. It is medium-bodied, pure and lively on the palate, with plenty of sweet fruit and good length on the finish.”

90/100 Robert Parker
