Château Phélan Ségur 2015

53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot

Created at the beginning of the XIX° century, Château Phélan Ségur is the result of the extraordinary work of M. Phélan. This château, one of the largest of Médoc region, is made of the mix of two properties: Clos de Garramay and Chateau Ségur which was owned by the Comtes de Ségur.

Chateau Phélan Ségur has a nice dark red colour. Complex aromas where we can find some mature blackberries notes with subtle vanilla. In mouth, the wine is strong, concentrated. Tanins are really present and ensure a long life to Chateau Phélan Ségur wines.

About This Wine...

“Tasted blind. Dark crimson. Neat, slightly wild-flower nose. Lots of interesting aromas and correct, if not thrilling structure on the palate. Creditable, though not one of the most glamorous 2015 St-Estèphes. Long. Easy to overlook. Drink 2024-2042.”

17/20 Jancis Robinson 2019

“The 2015 Phelan Segur, a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Merlot aged in 50% new oak, is certainly one of the better offerings from the Saint Estèphe appéllation. For sure, the bouquet is restrained, kept on a leash, but it trots along with crisp blackberry and raspberry fruit, interwoven with an attractive pencil lead note. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannin. It is structured and quite bold, considering the storm that swept across the appéllation during harvest, clearly a lot of sorting here that engenders a clean and pure wine with appreciable mineralité and tension on the foursquare finish. If released at a sensible price, then this would be a recommended Saint Estèphe to consumer over 10-12 years.”
