“This classic Mâcon is a real treat, with crunchy green apple flavours and a touch of lemon; perfect for shellfish or spit-roast chicken.” Irish Independent on the 2016 vintage, 5th August 2017. Full piece here.
Produced from grapes grown in the Northern Maconnais, this excellent Chardonnay based wine comes from one of the region’s leading growers. The wine is unoaked, medium bodied, has lovely citrus/ripe pear flavours and a long, crisp finish. The attack in the mouth is full, rich and fruity. Its long and elegant finish makes it suitable for enjoying as an aperitif, or as an accompaniment to seafood and goat’s cheese.
Uchizy is a small village in the northern part of the Maconnais, where the flat, rich alluvial plain beside the Saone River starts to rise towards the limestone outcrops to the West. The Talmard family produces only one wine, made from 100% Chardonnay and fermented entirely in tank. They believe that the combination of the rich, clayey soil, interspersed with mineral deposits produces a wine of such interesting, pure fruit flavours that any wood ageing would only serve to mar it.
