Bouchard Pére & Fils Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 2012

Meursault has 17 Premiers Crus, of which the highest regarded are Les Charmes, Les Genevrières and Les Perrières. Made up of 16ha towards the south of Meursault, and named after the juniper bushes that used to dot the hills in the area.

If Les Perrières is regularly the richest wine in Meursault, Les Genevrières comes close, producing particularly elegant wines. Les Charmes is the biggest of the three major vineyards and produces the most forward wines, seductive even in their youth.

About This Wine...

“Representing Bouchard’s very small holdings in that site, their 2007 Meursault Charmes smells of toasted almond and hazelnut, candied lime, and quince, Juicy and refreshing; brimming with lemon and white peach and yellow plum on the palate; and with toasty, nutty, honeyed underlying character, it offers lots of immediate appeal – while no doubt being worth following for at least half a dozen years. As Prost points out, “Charmes is very heterogeneous. This is Charmes Dessous, near the Route Nationale, not all of which is capable of truly great wine or consistent mineral complexity. Drink 2016 – 2026.”
