About This Wine...
The Wine
a blend of Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay
Off-dry, deliciously light and fruity, this is a refeshing sparkling wine at only 5% aclohol. The wine is sweet without being sugary and makes the perfect apéritif, it also pairs beautifully with dessert.
The Estate
Domaine des Baumard is based in the small town of Rochefort sur Loire, in the Anjou region of the Loire Valley. Most of the domaine’s production is from the Chenin Blanc grape, from which sparkling, dry, semi-dry and sweet wines are all produced. The Baumards, produce in the following white appellations: Anjou , Savennieres, Coteaux du Layon and Quarts de Chaume. The uneven ripening of the Chenin Blanc grape enables them to harvest at different times thus producing different styles.
This means of course that all harvesting is done by hand. Florent Baumard, who is in charge of the domaine, is without doubt one of the brightest stars of the whole of the Loire Valley . His approach to winemaking is that of a pragmatist who doesn’t ignore the past but also looks to the future. One thing he doesn’t believe in is the use of barrels for his Chenin Blanc. His wines therefore are always crisp and age beautifully whilst showing the full expression of Chenin fruit and the strong mineral core that is found in this part of the Loire.
Florent now bottles all his wines (apart from the sparkling wines) under screwcap.
